This weekend welcomes in Hitman: Agent 47 - the reboot of the 2007 film Hitman, based on the video game of the same name. However, that's not all the video game adaption goodness this week as a first look image and some first plot details for another video game adaptation have arrived, a little, highly anticipated movie by the name of Assassin's Creed.

This evening, 20th Century Fox have revealed not only the first plot details for the film but also the first look at our lead man Michael Fassbender suited up, in full costume, as our eponymous assassin Callum Lynch. Now, for those die-hard fans of the game franchise (like myself) scratching their heads, wondering why they've never heard that name before, it's because the character is brand-new and has been created specifically for the film. Just as each new game tends to introduce us to a new assassin, the film will too. Despite taking inspiration from the games, it won't tell the same story as any of them - which could be a good thing - but it will take place in the same world.

For years now, this project has been around. There was a point where the film wasn't even set to happen anymore and a point where a lead actor and director couldn't be locked down. However, the film is finally set to begin shooting this Monday and has Justin Kurzel on directing duties and will star Marion Cotillard (along with others) alongside Fassbender. Of course, if you're a keen film enthusiast then you'll know that the trio recently worked on Macbeth, which is set to get its UK premiere at the end of next month. How that turns out remains to be seen but it's hard to deny that Fassbender looks epic as Lynch.

Yahoo have the image, along with some first plot details for Assassin's Creed which they've also revealed and the film sounds pretty much as you'd expect an Assassin's Creed storyline to sound. This film certainly has a lot of potential - taking into consideration the stellar talent involved and after the first look image and plot details, especially - and may just be the video game adaption we need to rid our mouths of the bad taste left by nearly every other video game movie - since Hollywood has a bad track record when it comes to making them.

Here's how Yahoo describe the plot:
Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.
With Justin Kurzel at the helm, and starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotilard, with Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed also supporting, Assassin's Creed opens on December 21st, 2016.
