I LOVED the first season of Rebels and LOVED what we've seen in the second season so far too. Not only does the series feel like it's in the Star Wars world and not only does it do the franchise justice but it stands alone and holds up on its own merit and is perhaps one of the most fun TV shows currently airing on Disney XD - let alone the most mature too.
The season 2 mid-season finale ended with Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray) finding out the fate of his parents and the return of Rebels suggests a much darker fate for our protagonist himself. The return of Vader (voiced by James Earl Jones) is also teased here, as is the appearance of other familiar faces such as Princess Leia, Yoda and perhaps even another Sith Lord we've seen before but look carefully - blink and you'll miss it! The mid-season trailer is phenomenal. There's action, spectacle, lightsabers and excitement aplenty but the most interesting aspect has to be the shot of Ezra igniting the crossguard lightsaber. We've heard before that the series will tie into the film universe and, of course, the crossguard was something we saw used by Kylo Ren in the recent The Force Awakens which is definitely very intriguing.
Set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, Rebels follows a Rebel Alliance standing up against the Empire as they begin to grow in power and take over the galaxy but, most importantly, hunt down the remaining Jedi. So far, season 2 has seen Ezra training under the watchful eye of Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze Jr.) all whilst the starship crew head to help more people in their rebellion cause. However, the Empire have different plans for the rebels, sending out two powerful Inquisitors to hunt them down.
Star Wars: Rebels returns to Disney XD on January 20th, 2016, with the Season 2 mid-season premiere "Princess on Lothal".
