2014 has played host to A LOT of YA adaptions and next year is looking to be even bigger. Well, earlier this year we got Divergent and, now, the teaser has arrived for its follow-up; The Divergent Series: Insurgent.
Based on the hit novels by Veronica Roth, The Divergent Series: Insurgent will continue the story of Tris as she faces the consequences of the faction system plundering - at the end of Divergent. The first film was decent but not great so I'm skeptical about this sequel.
The first trailer - titled Defy Reality - has arrived and it is WEIRD! I've read the novels and I honestly can't think of what part it relates to. If you haven't seen the first film then this will be as confusing as Inception. Since it's a teaser, it's hard to tell what the film will be like but I'm intrigued, to say the least. Accompanying the reveal, Lionsgate have also released a new one-sheet for the project too.
Here's the film's official synopsis:
The Divergent Series: Insurgent raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
With Red director Robert Schwentke taking over, at the helm, from Neil Burger and starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Suki Waterhouse, Naomi Watts, Zoƫ Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, Octavia Spencer and lots of others, The Divergent Series: Insurgent will open on March 20th, 2015.
