Next year will see many different films about many different robots - for example, Ex Machina, Terminator: Genisys, Avengers: Age of Ultron - but it's safe to say that none of them look as awesome as Chappie, which has its first trailer... and it's a great one too!

That's right, folks! The first trailer for Neill Blomkamp's upcoming sci-fi action/comedy Chappie has arrived and it is rather glorious! It will mark the third film where Blomkamp is at the helm and it'll tell the story of an intelligent robot that may just be the next step in evolution. However, things are bound to go wrong.

The South African sci-fi aficionado's directorial debut saw itself in 2009's brilliant District 9 which, let's be honest, was pretty phenomenal. However, Blomkamp didn't manage to capture the same magic and sci-fi wonder with his last film, Elysium - it was all over the place.

Chappie, though, looks like it'll be a lot like his first film - in terms of how great it is - and, from what we can see, it has the potential to really shine as an new, atypical sci-fi film. Of course, we can never tell much from a trailer but I think Blomkamp has really captured something special here. The key to the film is balance and I think that Neill has really balanced the action, humour and heart nicely. It puts a smile on my face.

Personally, I think the film looks absolutely awesome. The first trailer was released today, by EW, and doesn't rush introducing us to our titular bot. It's exciting and does what a trailer is supposed to do - make us want to go and see the film! It's sweet, funny and, of course, action-packed - as is the case with any robot starring film.

Accompanying the trailer, a first poster for the film has also released and it's quite cool - featuring children's blocks, a gun and Chappie himself.

Here's the film's official synopsis:

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

Sharlto Copey - who worked with Blomkamp on both his previous films - voices our main character and he's so, so awesome! I'm very intrigued to see what a talented man like himself brings to the table with this. He'll be joined by Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, Sigourney Weaver. Chappie will arrive in cinemas on 6th March, 2015.

It's safe to say that this looks like an impressive, fun film. I'm definitely excited for it, that's certain!
