It's that wonderful time of year again as all the biggest blockbusters of the year butt heads, in the coming couple of months, to come out on top, in the Summer movie season. 2015 is playing host to a whole slew of projects and I'm going to be highlighting some of the unmissable ones.

From big budgeted sequels - the likes of Avengers: Age of Ultron to Mission Impossible 5 - to long-awaited reboots - with Jurassic World and Mad Max: Fury Road - to everything between; Minions, Inside Out, Ant-Man etc, this Summer is glowing with all sorts of shiny projects, looking to swoop in and leave an impression in the history books of film.

Below is a compilation of the 20 films that I think stand out as this Summer season's biggest, must-see films, for a whole variety of reasons - from mass excitement to audacious ideas to simple intrigue.

The films are listed in order of their UK release dates, starting from Age of Ultron – despite it having released at the end of last month. When talking about the Summer season, we simply could not miss that one out.

APRIL

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON:

RELEASE DATE: April 23rd, 2015.

You'd have to be out of your right mind not to want to see what is, unarguably, going to be the biggest film of the Summer - in terms of scale but also in terms of box-office.The chances are you've probably already seen it. The Avengers are back and better than ever. Enough said.

MAY

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD:

RELEASE DATE: May 14th, 2015.

30 years since the last Mad Max film and this year takes us back to the utterly insane world that George Miller created back in the 80's. With Tom Hardy replacing Mel Gibson as out titular character, this film looks f*cking epic. There's mass hysteria, some stunning action and just utter chaos. It's not going to be for everyone, that's for sure. But, take a look at the trailer above and see whether or not it fuels your excitement. It's quite easily my most anticipated film of the Summer and I'm super pumped to see it. There is nothing anyone can say that'll get me less excited. Let's just hope it lives up to the hype.

PITCH PERFECT 2:

RELEASE DATE: May 15th, 2015.

I loved the first film and so did a lot of people, with the original being one of the biggest surprises of 2012. It was hilarious. Now, back for round 2, Pitch Perfect 2 looks just as witty, just as funny and just as glamorous as its predecessor - if not more so. More great music and more great weirdness, this looks ready to strike big this Summer. Anna Kendrick makes fart noises. Rebel Wilson slides down a banister on a tray. Yeah, that sums it up pretty well.

TOMORROWLAND: A WORLD BEYOND:

RELEASE DATE: May 22nd, 2015.

There's a line in the trailer for this film in which George Clooney's character asks "Do you wanna go?" I know that my answer to that question is a screaming yes. Director Brad Bird has brought us some incredible films in the past, like The IncrediblesRatatouille and even Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - all of which were great. I have a feeling that his great track record is only going to keep on getting better, with Tomorrowland. The film has been (and still is) shrouded in secrecy. We know of a mysterious land and a magic pin. However, from what we've seen, it looks like a fun time.

SAN ANDREAS:

RELEASE DATE: May 29th, 2015.

From all the big superhero films to the reboots and sequels, this Summer doesn't shine as much for its unique flare. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson will be changing that, though, when he takes on a category 9 hurricane in San Andreas. This looks huge in scope and a lot of crazy fun. Besides, it's The Rock. The majority of his recent projects have been awesome. Let's hope he doesn't break the trend just yet. Get ready to take disaster films to a whole new level.

JUNE

SPY:

RELEASE DATE: June 5th, 2015.

Last Summer saw Melissa McCarthy star in Tammy; a film that looked really funny but was actually pretty awful. This year, the actress stars in Paul Feig's comedy Spy. Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself. However, McCarthy and Feig are a great duo - look at Bridesmaids and The Heat as two good examples. With an all-star cast, a decent premise and what looks to be some great humour, this may be the comedy to see this Summer season.

INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3:

RELEASE DATE: June 5th, 2015.

Now, I'm not very big on my horror films. However, I've seen the two prior Insidious films and I loved them both. Horror sequels are hard to do. Which makes it all the more impressive that Insidious: Chapter 3 looks just as coherent, scary and awesome, if not more so than its predecessors. Between The Poltergist remake (which I'm not too on-board with) and this, the 2015 Summer season doesn't look like it has too many big, notable horrors. I'm excited for this. The trailer is terrifying. Let's hope the film is too because this could be a chilling film - if done right.

JURASSIC WORLD:

RELEASE DATE: June 11th, 2015.

14 years since Jurassic Park 3 and this Summer marks the return of what was (and still is) a golden franchise - one of my favourites. The first film was a classic. The next two, maybe not so much. However, they still stand strongly in their own rights. Am I pumped for Jurassic World? I sure as hell am. It looks promising. However, I feel as though the more I see from it, the less excited I get. Nonetheless, this is for-sure going to be a HUGE commercial success - if nothing else. If you're not excited for this, I probably can't change your mind. However, if you grew up with the originals, you're going to go and see this - out of nostalgia and intrigue alone - whatever your opinion may be.

ENTOURAGE:

RELEASE DATE: June 19th, 2015.

The hit HBO TV show is getting the movie treatment. The boys are back and, by the look of the trailer, better than ever. I can't say I'm familiar with the show. From what I've heard though, it's pretty great. Let's just hope the film can live up to that. There's a star-studded cast and it looks like it could a lot of fun.

MINIONS:

RELEASE DATE: June 26th, 2015.

The little yellow guys that took the world by storm - back in 2012's surprise hit animation Despicable Me - are getting the spin-off treatment. Set 40 years B.G (before Gru), this film will be all about the ba-ba-banana loving Minions. From the trailers, this looks great. It has the potential to be too. Aside from Pixar's Inside Out, it's the only real, high-profile animation and, judging by how much kids loved the little folk in the Despicable Me films, this will make it big in the box-office. It's a whole film dedicated to the mishaps and shenanigans of the Minions; you can't argue with that. I'm sniffing big bucks.

JULY

TERMINATOR: GENISYS:

RELEASE DATE: July 3rd, 2015.

There's a lot of doubts and massive controversy surrounding this film. After the hugely disappointing Terminator 3 and the even worse Terminator: Salvation, a lot of people have lost hope in this franchise. Sure, Arnold Schwarzenegger is back to reprise his role but, from what we've seen, that's not enough to influence excitement for this. The marketing hasn't exactly been great and, as far as rumours go, the plot sounds like this film will kill the franchise. A lot of people will go and watch it, though, just out of interest to see - for themselves - what it's like. I think we're all expecting a pretty bad film but wouldn't it be the surprise of the century if this thing turns out to be good?!

TED 2:

RELEASE DATE: July 10th, 2015.

Ted's back. Comedy sequels never tend to be quite as good as their predecessors and I think that Ted 2 is trying to copy the first film, a bit too much for its own good. Whilst it still looks fun; I'm just hoping that too many of the big gags aren't given away before the film hits. I've kind of lost faith in Seth MacFarlane after the atrocious A Million Ways To Die In The West. Let's hope this can make up for that.

ANT-MAN:

RELEASE DATE: July 17th, 2015.

Marvel have one hell of an amazing repuation when it comes to taking fairly unknown properties and turning them into something awesome. Just look at how successful last year's Guardians of the Galaxy turned out to be. This year, Marvel are once again pushing out the boat - with Ant-Man; a film about a man who can transform into the size of an insect (it sounds quite stupid). On top of that, the film has faced a lot of problems during the production process. People have their understandable concerns. However, I'm looking forward to this. The trailer is fun, witty, charismatic and this looks like it  could be a blast. The pure intrigue of the concept alone is enough to get people interested.

MAGGIE:

RELEASE DATE: July 17th, 2015.

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in what looks like his most sincere, dramatic role yet. We have infected daughters, intense action, some moving emotion and an atypical twist on the usual zombie premise. This looks to tap more so into the human element of the apocalypse rather than exhaust its efforts focusing on the actual guts and gore and violence of it. Maggie may certainly not be as big and colorful as some of the other Summer spectacles but it looks like a more real, grounded quality piece of entertainment than the majority of them.

SOUTHPAW:

RELEASE DATE: July 24th, 2015.

Over the past few years, Jake Gyllenhaal has become one of my favourite actors working today. He starred in the phenomenal Nightcrawler and this year will see play boxer Billy Hope in Southpaw. The transformation he has undergone for this role is INSANE - from skinny psychopath to ripped boxer. He's certainly dedicated. The film looks amazing. Boxing dramas have a great track record for success. This looks no different. However, it's a lot more than just a boxing story. It's a redemption story. Slap bang in the middle of Summer, this intense, drama is exactly what we need. The gravitas and profile of this idea alone is enough for it thrive on, let alone the fact that Gyllenhaal stars in it.

INSIDE OUT:

RELEASE DATE: July 24th, 2015.

After last year’s Pixar drought, 2015 will welcome not one but two new animations from the studio - the first of which will open this Summer. Inside Out is bursting with ingenuity. Set inside a little girl's head, this film looks funny, heartfelt and beautiful; everything you want from a Pixar picture. The very large majority of their projects are excellent and this looks no different.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION:

RELEASE DATE: July 24th, 2015.

I love the Mission Impossible franchise. I thought that 2011's Ghost Protocol was fantastic. However, Tom Cruise has just generally been killing it of late. His last film, 2014's Edge of Tomorrow, was awesome. Rogue Nation looks badass. From an intriguing premise to the sleek cinematography and impeccable action choreography to the massive plane stunt we saw in the trailer, I'm excited to see this. 19 years since it began and this franchise is still going solid. I have a feeling that streak will only continue, with M.I 5.

AUGUST

FANTASTIC FOUR:

RELEASE DATE: August 6th, 2015.

Rounding off the superhero films of this year, we have Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot. There have been a lot of doubts surrounding this film. After the last two Fantastic Four films (back in 2005 and 2007), which weren't too great, people have kind of given up on this franchise. Then there have been plot rumours and leaks which haven't been too popular with fans. However, I have faith in this. Trank is a marvelous director and I loved Chronicle. The cast for this too, is as equally excellent. I thought the trailers were cool. It's definitely one to keep an eye out on. Something's telling me this will be good.

PIXELS:

RELEASE DATE: August 12th, 2015.

Adam Sandler doesn't exactly have a good name in Hollywood. The majority of his recent projects have, in simple terms, stunk to high heavens. The same can be said for Kevin James. Pixels may just be their silver lining though. Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad also co-star; as the gamer geeks that come to the world's rescue when video game characters invade Earth. It's definitely a unique concept, that's for sure. The teaser trailer was promising. It's hard to say what we can expect from this so we'll just have to wait and see for more.

PAPER TOWNS:

RELEASE DATE: August 21st, 2015.

Being the teen that I am, I’m a HUGE fan of John Green's work. I absolutely adore his novels. The Fault in Our Stars was an outstanding book and the film - that released last Summer - was a flawless adaptation and just as good. However, it's Paper Towns that is my all-time favourite Green story. I'll admit, at first I was skeptical about the film - just because of how much I love the source material. But, the first trailer was everything I hoped for and more. Cara Delevingne and Nat Wolff are both tremendously talented too and such perfect casting for Margo and Q. As long as the film does justice to the novel then I'll be satisfied. I have high expectations for this and I think it's going to be pretty phenomenal. I cannot wait.
