With Comic-con now fully in swing, one of the biggest panels of this year's event was that of the massively anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Whilst we didn't get a new trailer or any new footage, a brilliant behind-the-scenes feauturette was shown... and it's now online.

The film's new cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie and Adam Driver were joined by returning actors Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, as well as The Force Awakens director J.J Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy on stage, in the rowdy Hall H, for the panel. Of course, as expected, they didn't come empty-handed but not with a new trailer or any footage as most would've thought but, instead, with a behind-the-scenes reel.

The video is brilliant, possibly one of the best featurettes we've seen for a project in some time. Running for a few minutes, it's packed with Star Wars goodness. There's a lot of behind-the-scenes footage, emphasising the film's use of practical effects (it was revealed during the panel that over 100 creatures were built for the film). We also get to see some great concept art for some of the set pieces and landscapes in Episode VII, as well as snippets of interviews with the cast - talking about working on such a franchise. Oh, Simon Pegg is also starring in the film too as we find out.
As far as the panel itself went, despite not much news being revealed in terms of The Force Awakens or the expanded universe and the spin-off films, it was still pretty great, nonetheless. The fans in Hall H were crazy. We did, however, finally get official confirmation of the characters Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver and Gwendoline Christie will be playing. As expected, Christie will be portraying Captain Phasma with Driver as Kylo Ren. The big news was that Gleeson will be playing a villainous character called General Hux, who is commander of the First Order's headquarters.

Some other big news was that Kathleen revealed that Gareth Edwards' Star Wars spin-off, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, will begin shooting in three weeks time. As we already know, the film will star Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn and Sam Claflin. Oh, it was also revealed when we'd be seeing the next trailer for The Force Awakens but it's still some time away and won't release until this Fall.
