During the Walt Disney Animation/Pixar Studios presentation yesterday, at D23 Expo, in Anaheim, we got a whole slew of details for all sorts of upcoming films. However, we also got the announcement of a brand-new Pixar film: Coco. Some first details and even a teaser poster were revealed!
Here's Lee Unkrich's tweet:

The film, named after one of the lead characters, will be directed by Lee Unkrich and produced by Darla Anderson, both who last worked together on 2010's acclaimed and beloved Toy Story 3. Coco is being described as "the celebration of a lifetime, where the discovery of a generations-old mystery leads to a most extraordinary and surprising family reunion." As Unkrich revealed at the presentation yesterday, the story for the film was inspired by the Mexican holiday Dia De Los Muertos.
The literal translation of Dia De Los Muertos is Day of the Dead and the significance of the holiday is to remember family and friends that have passed away. The iconic skeleton art associated with the event is made in honour of those have died and Unkrich revealed that it was the artwork that led to his emotional investment in the holiday and to research for his film, he spent some time in Mexico seeing how the holiday was celebrated and celebrating it with different families.
Not much else was revealed about Coco other than the basic plot details above and that it is expected to release in the Fall of 2017, as made evident by a logo reveal poster for the forthcoming animation (see below). It's a pretty basic one-sheet but the colours are vibrant and the logo is pretty cool. Unkrich described the film as "emotional", whilst John Lasseter called it "breathtaking, beautiful and fun". If Pixar and Unkrich's great track records are anything to go by, I don't doubt those words. You can check out a tweet from the director below, announcing the film and featuring the logo reveal.
