Just at the start of this month, we got our first look at the first of a forthcoming YA franchise The 5th Wave, via a sneak peek teaser trailer (you can watch it here). It was a mediocre, pretty conventional look at the film but the first, full trailer for the picture has now been released and it's so much better.
Chloë Moretz leads the YA franchise, based on the hit series by author Rick Yancey, as Cassie Sullivan, a girl who sets out in search for her missing brother in a world that is facing an alien invasion. Of course, The 5th Wave is only the first in a trilogy of novels by Yancey - as per the usual. Let's just hope that the studio doesn't decide to split the last book into two different films.

This evening, Sony have released the first, full-length trailer for the adaption and it's a lot better than the first look we got a couple of weeks back. With The Hunger Games franchise ending this November and no other dystopian franchise being as successful and popular right now, it looks as though The 5th Wave may be the one to take the baton and rocket too success. The reveal features your typical genre conventions but it looks a lot darker, a lot more action-packed, a lot more intense and just a lot better than your typical teen flick fare.

In The 5th Wave, set in the present day, four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, 16-year-old Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie meets a young man who may become her final hope.
With J. Blakeson at the helm, and starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Liev Schreiber, Maika Monroe, Nick Robinson and Ron Livingston, The 5th Wave opens here, in the UK, on January 22nd, 2016.
