Ditching the Snow White part of 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman, next year's follow-up will be simply be titled The Huntsman: Winter's War and the first trailer, along with a whole batch of posters, for the film have been released.

Back in 2012, we received a darker retelling of the iconic Snow White fairy-tale with Snow White and the Huntsman. All in all, I thought it was a mediocre film at best that had some nice visuals but wasn't anything spectacular. With Kristen Stewart now off working on good films like Clouds of Sil Maria or Camp X-Ray, the sequel had to progress without her - thus the absence of her character's name from the title. However, Chris Hemsworth returns as the eponymous Huntsman for another round of fairy-tale magic.

This evening, Universal have unveiled the first trailer for the film and, I know I'll have an unpopular opinion here, but, honestly, it's not all that great. The visuals look great, as they did in its predecessor, and the action sequences and the scope of this film  look big but it just seems like more of the same. It's not a bad reveal but there doesn't seem like much to get excited about, in my opinion, apart from, perhaps, the stellar ensemble on-board. As far as this cast goes, some character posters have been unveiled, putting the spotlight on our 4 central characters - Theron, Blunt, Chastain and Hemsworth. The one-sheets look fairly decent but, again, are nothing special. The Huntsman: Winter's War certainly seems as though it has potential and I really hope that it turns out to be good but we'll just have to wait (and pray) and see.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
Long before the evil Queen Ravenna (Theron) was thought vanquished by Snow White’s blade, she watched silently as her sister, Freya (Blunt), suffered a heartbreaking betrayal and fled their kingdom. With Freya’s ability to freeze any enemy, the young ice queen has spent decades in a remote wintry palace raising a legion of deadly huntsmen — including Eric (Hemsworth) and warrior Sara (Chastain) — only to find that her prized two defied her one demand: Forever harden your hearts to love.
When Freya learns of her sister’s demise, she summons her remaining soldiers to bring the Magic Mirror home to the only sorceress left who can harness its power. But once she discovers Ravenna can be resurrected from its golden depths, the wicked sisters threaten this enchanted land with twice the darkest force it’s ever seen. Now, their amassing army shall prove undefeatable… unless the banished huntsmen who broke their queen’s cardinal rule can fight their way back to one another.
With Cedric Nicolas-Troyan making his directorial debut, and starring Chris Hemsworth, Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, Jessica Chastain, Nick Frost and Sam Claflin, The Huntsman: Winter's War opens on April 22nd, 2016.
