Awards season is in full swing now. The Golden Globes were the other day, the BAFTA nominations were revealed last week and, of course, I've been too busy to even cover them here (my sincerest apologies) but, today is the big day so put on your best red carpet poses and get ready to angrily scream and shout as all the usual snubs because the 2016 Oscar nominations have arrived.

Chris Rock is set to host the annual Academy Awards, which wil take place towards the end of next month, but, today, Guillermo Del Toro, Ang Lee and a few other big names in the industry came together to announce the nominations for this year's ceremony and there's some deserved talent making the list but, of course, as is expected, there are some snubs too and some desereved talent not making the cut.

The Revenant leads the race with 12 nominations, with Mad Max close behind with 10. The nominations were as expected, for the most part; Leonardo DiCaprio got a nomination for his performance, as did Sylvester Stallone for Creed and Jennifer Lawrence for Joy. It's a shame that the Academy favouring white people problem was evident again this year. Neither Idris Elba or Michael B. Jordan received any noms, and it was a shame to see that Tarantino's The Hateful Eight didn't pick up many big nominations either.
