Marvel and Netflix's shared TV universe has really proven to be quite the success over the past couple of years. Now, whilst the MCU has The Avengers, the Netflix shows have been building towards The Defenders, and a short teaser for it has released.

This year's Comic-con is well underway now, over in San Diego, and a whole slew of new trailers and details for the forthcoming shows in Marvel and Netflix's shared universe were revealed at the annual convention. Whilst the main focus of Marvel TV's panel was Luke Cage, we also got our first look at Iron Fist, as well as a short The Defenders teaser. Check it out:

The teaser doesn't feature any heroes or even any footage, for that matter, but it still does enough to tease the epic lineup of heroes coming together and get us excited. We have little hints and nods towards each of the heroes making up the titular team: "the Devil of Hell's Kitchen" is, of course, Daredevil; the "Alias Investigations" logo is a nod towards Jessica Jones; "property of Seagate Prison" is a reference to Luke Cage, as that's the prison he served his sentence in the comics, and "who is Danny Rand" is quite clearly talking about Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist.

However, we then see the word 'Defend' and a hand as we hear Scott Glenn's Stick - from seasons 1 and 2 of Daredevil - say, "you think the four of you can save New York? You can't even save yourselves". Now, whilst we know very little about the forthcoming show, I'm willing to bet that the antagonist that The Defenders will come together to defeat is The Hand, again from Daredevil. It's just an assumption but The Hand is certainly a plausible threat that has already been established in this world and one that is difficult enough that it would require all four of these heroes to work together to defeat.

Starring Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, Finn Jones and Rosario Dawson, The Defenders is set to begin filming towards the end of this year for a 2017 release date - as the above teaser reveals. However, with no director, writers or anything announced, production still far from beginning, and Luke Cage and Iron Fist still to debut beforehand (the latter which is releasing in 2017 too), this is some time away and won't release until at least the latter half of next year at the earliest. I've loved what Marvel have done with their Netflix shows thus far though and am all the more excited for The Defenders knowing that it's at least on the horizon for 2017.

Here's the synopsis:
Marvel’s The Defenders will unite Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, as they face their biggest threat yet.
