There are only a small handful of directors that can generate hype for a film by their mere involvement in it, least of which is not Martin Scorsese, who's latest film, despite a very late marketing launch has already generated plenty of excitement. That's right... it's finally here, folks, the trailer and poster for Silence has arrived.

Scorsese has been developing Silence for quite some time now, having worked on this passion project of his on and off again since the early 90's. However, it is finally set to release and StudioCanal have debuted the trailer for it (they took their sweet time!!!). Check it out below:
The marketing campaign for Silence has certainly taken its time getting into motion - the film is set to open in limited release overseas in exactly one month and we only got word of a 2016/early 2017 release for this just a couple of months ago too - but it has certainly launched with a bang. It's no surprise that Scorsese is looking to give this one an Awards push because he wrote the film with Jay Crooks and has been trying to get it made for around 2 decades or so. Now, with the talent and the time and sincere passion all backing this project, it's really shaping up to be something pretty special.

I love this trailer. It sets up the premise whilst not giving too much away, and teasing just enough for us to get excited; the story, the cinematography and the acting all look utterly remarkable. I'm a big fan of Scorsese's and I loved his last film, 2013's insane The Wolf of Wall Street, but am also more excited for this because of how much of a passion project it is for him. I'm also loving the talent aboard this project, and I'm willing to bet there will be some serious buzz for Garfield, Driver and Neeson for this come next Spring - all 3 of which may already have some hype for their other possibly contending films Hacksaw Ridge, Paterson and A Monster Calls respectively too.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
Martin Scorsese’s SILENCE tells the story of two Christian missionaries (Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson) – at a time when Christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden. The celebrated director’s 28-year journey to bring Shusaku Endo’s 1966 acclaimed novel to life will be in theaters this Christmas.
With Martin Scorsese at the helm, and starring Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Ciaran Hinds, Tadanobu Asano, and Liam Neeson, Silence opens in the U.K on January 1st, 2017.
