Marvel and Netflix's small-screen universe has been pretty great thus far, with this past week welcoming in the long-awaited The Defenders. Now, the studio are looking ahead and the teaser trailer for The Punisher has arrived.
Netflix officially debuted the trailer earlier this afternoon (which did the bootleg rounds late last week) and you can check it out below:
Jon Bernthal's portrayal of Frank Castle - aka The Punisher - in last year's second season of Daredevil was easily the best part of an already brilliant show. So, for that reason alone, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the beloved anti-hero's own solo series. And our first look is pretty promising. The teaser arrived online a couple of days ago but Netflix released it online officially today and it's definitely a "teaser" in every sense of the word.
The "demolition" reveal doesn't give much away but teases that Bernthal's Castle is on a revenge mission, and coming to collect his dues. We get flashes of some of the violence that will go down, as well as some hints of Frank's past and backstory being explored a little deeper; the "Penny and Dime" episode of Dardevil certainly touched upon his past in what is, in my opinion, one of the best scenes ever put to TV. We, of course, now that Dardevil's Deborah Ann Woll will be reprising her role as Karen Page so we know the events of The Punisher will take place after the events of that but it'll be interesting just to see how much of the past we actually get to see too.
The Punisher will arrive on Netflix later this year, with a release date still to be confirmed. But, given we only have 4 months left, expect one to arrive soon.
