Everyone, stop what you're doing. The first trailer for director Alex Garland's latest sci-fi film, Annihilation, following on from Ex Machina, is here. And it's one to watch.

Paramount Pictures debuted the trailer earlier today, so check it out:
Annihilation was already one of my most anticipated films of next year, just because of Garland's attachment alone - not to mention the stellar cast he has assembled too. I absolutely adored his directorial debut, Ex Machina, which I consider to be one of the best sci-fi films of the decade so I was very intrigued for Annihilation - his sophomore feature - as a result. And this teaser trailer does not disappoint!!!

The film will be based on the first book - of the same name - in Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy and it follows some characters as they venture into Area X - a mysterious, uninhabited area engulfed by nature and something extraterrestrial. Personally, I loved what Garland brought to the genre with his last film and it looks like he's going to continue quietly defying sci-fi with this film too; it looks original, intelligent, gorgeous and just spectacular. This will definitely be one to watch.

With Alex Garland at the helm, and starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, and Oscar Isaac, Annihilation is set to hit cinemas on February 23rd, 2018.
