There is nothing I love more than a dark comedy and the first trailer for festival darling Thoroughbreds teases just that... A twisted and delightful looking romp.
Focus Features debuted the trailer earlier this afternoon, so check it out below:
Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke are both young actresses to keep on your radar at the moment, both continually proving themselves as some of the most promising talents in the industry today. Well, the first trailer for Thoroughbreds brings them together and, expectedly, it looks like the quality of film we'd expect from them - it's a no-brainer, really. The film is being billed as "American Psycho meets Heathers" and it looks exactly like what you'd expect American Psycho meeting Heathers to look like: delightfully dark, twisted, and complete with razor-sharp jet-black humour.
The film has proven to be a success doing the festival circuit recently, especially because it features the late and great Anton Yelchin in one of his final roles. It's a reminder that he was also a promising, hugely talented young actor on the rise - one we certainly lost too soon. The leading trio look excellent together, though, and this looks like a film you'll not want to miss if you like your thrillers dark and absurd.
Here's the film's synopsis:
Childhood friends Lily and Amanda reconnect in suburban Connecticut after years of growing apart. Lily has turned into a polished, upper-class teenager, with a fancy boarding school on her transcript and a coveted internship on her resume; Amanda has developed a sharp wit and her own particular attitude, but all in the process of becoming a social outcast. Though they initially seem completely at odds, the pair bond over Lily's contempt for her oppressive stepfather, Mark, and as their friendship grows, they begin to bring out one another's most destructive tendencies. Their ambitions lead them to hire a local hustler, Tim, and take matters into their own hands to set their lives straight.
With Cory Finley at the helm, and starring Anya-Taylor Joy, Olivia Cooke, Anton Yelchin, and Paul Sparks, Thoroughbreds opens in the U.K on March 9th, 2018.
