In amidst the end-of-year trailer rush, Universal Pictures are making sure to get the hype train going for one of their major 2018 players, the Peter Jackon produced Mortal Engines, and a teaser trailer has arrived online.

Universal Pictures finally debuted the teaser trailer online for Mortal Engines this afternoon, after it screened overseas over the weekend alongside screenings of The Last Jedi. Check it out below:

Anytime there's promise of "an epic new saga" from Peter Jackson - arguably, the KING of epic sagas - there is reason to be excited. And, whilst this Mortal Engines teaser gives nearly nothing away, it certainly sets up a huge film we can look forward to.... come December 2018. Yes, it is still around a year out but Universal were clearly eager to get the train rolling on this one and it seems pretty evident why in that first look reveal above. It's going to be huge.

The film will be an adaptation of Phillip Reeve's huge YA dystopian novel of the same and will have Oscar-winning visual effects artist Christian Riviera at the helm. From the teaser, it looks like it will be huge and epic and it also seems Jackson's involvement - who co-wrote the screenplay with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens - will be a big selling point. Even though he isn't in the director's chair, he is heavily involved with the project so we can expect that large-scope, ambitious Peter Jackson flair with this project. The teaser makes that evident enough, setting up all the mayhem and chaos that is to ensue. This is one of my most anticipated films of 2018 and has been for some time; it'll definitely be one to keep an eye out for.

Here's the film's official synopsis:
Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.
With Christian Rivers at the helm, and starring Robert Sheehan, Hera Hilmer, Stephen Lang, and Hugo Weaving, Mortal Engines will hit U.K cinemas on December 14th, 2018.
