Sony Pictures debuted the first trailer for Venom earlier this afternoon, and it's embedded below for your viewing pleasure. Check it out:
Whilst the reveal doesn't give away a whole lot, it does offer us our first look at Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock who, due to the symbiote taking over him, becomes the infamous Spidey-baddie Venom and it looks very promising. The film is certainly one of my most anticipated of 2018, for the sole reason that we have an acting titan such as Hardy attached in the eponymous role and a stellar ensemble supporting him too to make one of the strongest blockbuster casts of the year.
- I like the dark tone the trailer establishes too. The film is set to follow the Deadpool and Logan mould and be a gritty, violent R-rated adaptation of the character which, as a fan of Venom in the comics, excites me greatly. The film certainly teases this more visceral approach to the material and I'm all for it because it could really work, given the rich and compelling nature of the character. Director Rueben Fischer's version is set to see Hardy as Agent Venom and will be largely based on the 'Lethal Protector' and 'Planet of the Symbiotes' story-arcs which, as fans of the comics will know, the trailer certainly alludes to. It looks great. I'm excited.
